Commodore (ret) Henning Amundsen has 40+ years of military service experience in Norway and abroad, including various leadership and management positions.
Henning is a retired Norwegian Commodore with extensive Joint and Naval experience. He was appointed Commander Norwegian Fleet (COMNORFLEET) and Commander Norwegian Task Group (COMNORTG) on the 4th April 2011 and took command as Norway’s first ever COM SNMG1 30 May 2013 using HNoMS Fridjof Nansen as flagship. He was the force commander for NATOs anti piracy operation, Operation Ocean Shield. In addition, he has served at NATO MARITIME COMMAND, Northwood in England for six years, first as Staff Officer Littoral Operations North and thereafter as Chief Training & Exercise (CC-MAR HQ). In addition, he has held several positions in the Royal Norwegian Navy as commanding officer of FPB’s and service at national headquarters in both Stavanger and Bodø. He has also served at naval training establishment in Bergen.
Henning attended the Norwegian Naval Academy from 1979 and graduated in1982. He took a post graduate diploma (PGD) in Maritime defence technology in Plymouth 1990. He has also Naval staff college in Oslo as well as Joint Command and staff college in addition to the senior course at Norwegian Defence Academy.
After retirement as a Commodore and Commander Norwegian Fleet (COMNORFLEET) in 2015, Henning has been engaged as an independent consultant supporting civilian companies and Joint Warfare Centre (JWC).
